SHORT BREAK,GREENWICH,DOVER,CANTERBURY.
Ferry ride to Calais.
16.02.2021
In the month of July , a year or two back, i took a short break with a friend ,to south east
England. The duration was for 4 days. --- First was a visit to London to Greenwich, mainly
to see Cutty Sark. This is a Victorian Tea Clipper, that was built in Scotland in 1869 .
It was one of the fastest clipper ships. It is 963 tons. It is situated in King William Walk
Greenwich, which is in a large bend in the river Thames. Across the river is Docklands
and Canary Wharf, with the skyscrapers. Also on show near the Cutty Sark is Gipsy
Moth 1V, 53ft long [16m.] This is the boat of Sir Francis Chichester, the round the world
sailor. Next i stayed in Dover, in southeast Kent on the coast.. Dover is a major port.
A medieval castle on the cliff top dominates the town,. Dover has been the Gateway
to England for centuries.. Next to the castle is a Roman Pharos or Lighthouse it is
60ft high, it was higher in Roman times.. Next to the Pharos is St Marys church, a late
Saxon building., today it is the Garrison church. -- A train from London to Dover takes 1 hour 45 minutes or just 1 hour by HST. From Dover i took the train to Canterbury about 30 minutes.-------
